SEMH: The Hidden Disabliity

A  hands on practical course to enable participants to:

  • Understand social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Respond effectively to challenging behaviour
  • Develop inclusive practice to improve pupil outcomes and meet need  

All 3 days must be attended:

Session 1: 8th November 2019

Session 2: 17th January 2020

Session 3: 20th March 2020

Facilitated by: Marian McClelland SLE

Pre-course task:

  • Identify a child for case study, obtaining parental and school consent
  • Complete a fact file for that child

Planned “gap tasks” / self-study in delegates schools:

Case study to be undertaken in delegates own school, involving assessment, intervention and measuring impact.

Further information:

  • Delegates will be provided with a key text – "Simple Guide to Trauma" by Betsy Thierry (2017)
  • Recommended resources will be available to explore and consider for use in home school
  • One member of SLT per delegate to attend the morning session of Day 1

Leading from the Middle

Middle leaders play an integral role in day to day school life. This course is designed for both new and current middle leaders and will explore a range of content in relation to how to lead effectively from the middle.  As part of this course, we will look at how to create an authentic vision; how to build a high performing team; how to effectively monitor, evaluate and review your impact; as well as how to manage difficult conversations and improve commitment.  The course is designed to be adaptive to the needs of the cohort and will be applicable to both pastoral and curriculum roles.

All 3 sessions must be attended:

Session 1: 13th November 2019

Session 2: 22nd January 2020

Session 3: 24th June 2020

**All sessions: 9am - 2.30pm, " lunch will be provided"

Throughout this programme attention with be given to sharing evidence based strategies to include a child with Autism. A child-centred approach will enable participants to carry out classroom based enquiry. The course content aims to deepen knowledge, understanding around the following areas:

Teaching, learning and assessment

Sensory issues

Play

Do you need support and guidance on what your day to day role involves, the systems that you need to have in place, the route to referrals and need some support in setting up systems, tracking and showing progress for your learners? This course covers the day to day nitty gritty not covered on the accreditation course!

Following on from the success of this course for the last 2 years, two of our most experienced Leading SENCos cover the key information you will need within your role, making sure you are able to monitor, evaluate and review provisions. There will also be time made available to tailor the course to your needs.

Coach Like a Pro - POSTPONED

This is a full 3-day course, accredited by Olevi. The course will cover the theory behind coaching as well as looking at the skills need to be an effective coach, and a variety of models to structure coaching in practice to support staff development and school improvement. The programme includes individual work booklets with coaching activities to complete in school to support your training. An essential for all schools looking to develop a coaching culture.
